Spain’s Largest Wildfire Forces Augustinian Nuns to Evacuate Historic Monastery | SG News
A devastating wildfire is sweeping across the Spanish province of Ávila, forcing the evacuation of the Augustinian Sisters of the Monastery of the Conversion in Sotillo de la Adrada. The blaze has burned more than 120,000 acres, making it one of the largest wildfire emergencies Spain has faced in recent history. As firefighters continue battling the flames under extreme weather conditions, the sisters have found temporary refuge at the Saint Ildefonso Convent in Talavera, where they continue to pray for all those affected. In response to the crisis, the Diocese of Ávila has opened its seminary and retreat houses to shelter displaced families, parish priests, and others forced to flee their homes.
